This year I was fortunate enough to be one of 82 Royal LePage Realtors to participate in the Iceland Challenge- a 115 km, 5 day trek across the southern portion of Iceland.

It was significantly harder than I imagined it would be but it was an experience I would not change for the world. The scenery was breath taking, the camaraderie was heartwarming and the dedication and strength of will was unlike anything I've experienced. It was truly a life changing experience.

We set off from Reykjavik in groups of about 30 with two local guides and a guide sent from Charity Challenge. Each participant had a minimum fundraising requirement of $5000 which most people blew right past- as a group of 82, we raised over $655,000!  Of that money, 80% will go to the local women's shelter in the community where the money was raised (so 80% of the funds I raised will go to Halton Women's Place) and 20% will go to national programs focused on Domestic abuse.

Every dollar of the $655,000 raised will go towards the cause. Royal LePage pays for the entire cost to run the charity which has grown over the last ten years to become the largest national domestic violence charity in Canada.

Have a look a look through the pictures my group members took. Words can not explain what a remarkable place Iceland is.
